Always Wear Your Invisible Crown

Hello dolls!

As sisters, we both receive a lot of mail and messages over social media.
Most of these letters are awesome, and we love getting to share them with each other and giggle and “Awww!” over our wonderful followers.

Sometimes however, there are THOSE messages.

The ones from guys.

Guys you don’t know, have never met, and don’t particularly have an interest in carrying on hours and hours of meaningless conversation with over some website chat app.

Most of the time, they are from older (You know the type) guys who write things like “hey beautiful” “hi” “hello” “How are you” You r hot” and such elegant soliloquies along those lines.

When you don’t write these characters back, they become angry, upset or depressed. If they do not grow angry and call you every word for b*tch under the sun, they will try to place a guilt trip of why you’re a bad person for refusing to talk to them and why their happiness COMPLETELY depends on you writing them back a Facebook message.

Well Buckaroo Barbie has a video to try and help you deal with these kinds of situations! We believe women need to stick together, and since we’ve had so much experience in this particular area (although we wish we didn’t!), we thought we would share some of our hints and ideas for how to help you through it!

Take 5 minutes out of your busy day...enjoy...and remember that if you ever need help or just a friendly chat about some Buckaroo Barbie troubles, zip us off a message and we will be there…and remember...always wear your invisible crown!

If you have troubles viewing the video in this post just click this link, it'll take you right to the video!

What Kind Of Man Should You Date?

Earlier this year I had an interesting conversation with a friend about whether or not she was going to continue dating the guy she had been seeing. After hearing about some of the ways he acted, I thought to myself, “You deserve so much better! Why are you even talking to this tool?! He sounds like a boy, not a man.”

And then I shook myself and realized that I have done the very same thing on probably more than one occasion. We all have at some point!

You’ve got to kiss a few frogs before you find a prince, right?

Do you think about the type of person you want to date before you enter into a relationship with someone? Or are you kind of like me, where you run off to ride a few colts and rope something and 6 months later you look up and realize you’ve become a couple?

What type of man should you date? You should…

Date a man who has rougher hands than you.
Date a man who can outwork you, but appreciates your help.
Date a man who doesn’t exist on social media.
Date a man who swears, but apologizes after.
Date a man who is good to his dogs.
Date a man who can do a load of laundry and make his own meals.
Date a man who is able to say a genuine “I’m sorry.”

Date a man, not a boy with swag.

Date a man who puts your happiness above his own.
Date a man who is proud of you, and doesn’t care who knows.
Date a man who is willing to call you out when you’re acting ridiculous.
Date a man whose dreams are just as big and outrageous as your own.
Date a man who reads.
Date a man who is constantly striving to better himself.

Don't date a man simply to date,
Date a man because you can't imagine him not being in your life.

You Are Worth More Than Your Bra Size

If I could wave my Big Sister wand for all you young girls out there and make you see how incredibly and shockingly beautiful your soul is, I would do it so quickly that the magical words pouring out of my mouth would suck the very air out of the room and leave you feeling dizzy.

If there was one thing I could grant to all young women, it would be true understanding of how important you really are. How much you and your Precious Heart and your beautiful, sexy soul really are.

If I could allow you just a peek into the future when heart breaking experience will have taught you to value your soul more than your body, without the heartbreak, I would.

You Are Worth So Much More

You are worth so much more than your soft, smooth skin or how you look in skinny jeans. You are worth more than the stretch marks on your thighs or the cup size of your bra. Your body is beautiful and amazing and changing daily...and it is only a shell. A wondrous and amazing shell, true, but a shell none the less. Your soul, your heart and your character, the things that make you YOU, are what truly make you beautiful.

I am just now learning, at the ripe old age of 26 that what a man thinks of my body and face has no value when it comes to a relationship. What's important is being with a man who recognizes my sensitive writer's heart and admires my strong sense of right and wrong. What matters is a man who accompanies me to church because we share the same beliefs and is concerned about the health of my soul.

Stay close to the people who love you for who you really are, so that when the time comes and you wander off track, they can remind you that you are important because of your heart...not because your butt looks hot in those jeans.

You Are Freaking Awesome.

Repeat that to yourself as many times as it takes for you to believe it. You’re going to meet some gorgeous boy before too long who has eyes that glow with adventure and arms that promise to carry you over the rough times….and dear, darling girl, he’s going to let you down. You might be 12, 15 or 21 when it happens but some boy is going to break your heart and leave you standing amidst the rubble of everything you thought you believed in. It will shake you to your core and leave you wondering “Why? Was it me?” When that day arrives, come visit me and I will ply you with steaming mugs of tea, enormous plates of cinnamon toast and I will remind you of a very important message your heart may have momentarily forgotten: YOU ARE FREAKING AWESOME, GIRL.

Treat and think of yourself as someone who is awesome, as a person to be treasured. You are. And you are valuable because of the girl you are on the inside, not how you look on the outside. No matter what other people tell you, you deserve the best. And when your heart forgets that vitally important fact and decides to attract attention and approval based on your looks, go back and be reminded of how loved you are by the people who truly understand the true beauty of your soul.

Value Yourself

Please, please, please, hold out for that amazing man who falls in love with the beauty of your heart, with the real you. You deserve to be cherished for the integrity of your soul, not the dimples in your cheeks. You deserve to have someone who honors you, respects you and cares about your well being more than his own. And to tell you the truth ladies, the guys who aren’t in to you for those reasons are going to try and make you feel insecure about yourself and your body. Because if your spirit and confidence is broken down enough, you’re going to feel the need to be built back up. And who will you turn to? That’s right, the person who tore you down in the first place.

Someone who is only interested in you for the shine in your hair and the red in your lips will have all the right words to say that will make you think he’s into the real you, but his actions will prove otherwise. He will make you feel that the most important thing about you is your body, because that’s what he’s into. And that, my dear friend, is a crappy game.

Don’t play it, don’t fall for it and don’t stand for it.

I had a boyfriend at one point who I thought was my very own Prince Charming in cowboy boots. He talked about respecting me, he liked my father and said all the right words. I was going through life-altering times and felt incredibly vulnerable and his attention made me feel like I mattered in a way that I hadn’t felt in a long time. Looking back at our relationship now, I just shake my head at myself. While he was saying all the pretty things I wanted to hear, he was treating me like my body was the only thing he was really into. And guess what? It was.

Girls, it’s way easier to let someone make you feel wanted and admired and beautiful than it is to wait for someone who really cares about how freaking awesome you really are on the inside. That’s the truth. It’s hard to respect yourself and it’s hard to teach people to value the real you. And no matter how much I want to wave my magic wand and give you a glimpse into the future so that you know I’m giving it to you straight, I can’t. Only YOU can decide that you are worth it, and only YOU can determine how you will let other people treat you.  What I can do is share with you the moments I have experienced myself and keep reminding you (and myself), at every turn, you are worth so much more.

All The Single Ladies

The other day a thought popped into my head about why I’m single, and silly-nilly me, I posted it as a status update on Facebook. The response was immediate and overwhelming. It came across like a singles ad, which I REALLY did not mean! It brought up some interesting discussions about relationships, though, with both men and women chiming in. What I said was,

Yup!! You guessed, my name is Liz. I like fast horses, old whiskey, good lookin men with ambition (bonus if you can dance), and I have a very expensive addiction to shoes and lipstick. Please don't bother if you don't drink coffee...I hate being the man in the relationship. :) “

Uhhh yeah….reading it over again it DOES sound like a singles ad!! Ooops! When I was writing it, I was mentally going over a list of reasons of why I’m not dating. See, I’m 25 years old, single and haven’t been on a date in a year. I’m also as happy as a bird with a French fry, a fat lady in a chocolate shop and a witch in a broom factory and I'm not looking for a special someone! When most people hear that, they kind of freak out. I guess they’re worried I’ll never find true love until I’m as old as dirt. Insert sarcasm here! The truth is, I’m having a grand time being single right now. I honestly believe everyone should have a period where they’re able to be completely, selfishly and 100% focused on themselves and know what it’s like to exist as a human outside of a romantic relationship.

Lately I’ve been thinking about some of the younger Buckaroo Barbies who read this blog, and what it’s like to grow up in a culture that is constantly screaming that you’re self-worth is tied up in a romantic relationship. I remember being 13-years-old and wanting to have a boyfriend SO BADLY!! My mums met my daddy when she was only 15 years old, and I thought their love story was a real life fairy tale. I wanted a happy ending just like my mums and I thought that to be like her, I needed to meet my Prince Charming as quickly as possible. If I could go back and talk to my 13-year-old, spazzed-out, love-struck self, I would tell me to just take a chill pill and enjoy who I was at that point and time!

The reason I’m not dating now isn’t because I’m against love or think I’m too good for anyone…far from it! I do have a set of beliefs and values that I hold myself to though, and I want the person I care about to care about the same things I do. I’m waiting for that guy that is as driven, hard working and ambitious as me. I want to be spend time with a man that reminds me of my daddy and has the same values and beliefs as I do. And in the meantime, I’m not focused or spending energy on wondering who he is, where he is or when I’ll meet him. I’m looking at this point of my life as the most beautiful gift I could ever give myself: time to get to know me and cultivate characteristics and skills that are going to help me reach my dreams. Being single allows me to be selfish in a way that I can’t be when I’m in a relationship with someone.

We all know someone whose self-worth and happiness is tied up in whether they are in a relationship or not. I think because they’re not exactly comfortable with who they are as individuals, when they are in the hollowed “long-term” relationship, they’re still not completely satisfied and that affects the relationship. The most long-term relationship you’re ever going to have is with yourself. Duh moment, sorry but I had to point that out. And if you’re not in love with YOU, how can you expect someone else to love you too? If you are single right now and hating it, I would challenge you to look at it as an awesome opportunity to invest in YOURSELF. Give yourself the gift of becoming, on your own, the person you were meant to be! Give yourself over 150% to your hopes and dreams and focus all your energy on making them come true. When you’re attention is centered on something other than love or just BEING WITH SOMEONE, than the right relationship and the right person has a tendency to come along when you’re least expecting it. It’s OK to be picky and it’s OK to have standards. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

I know there are many of you who are happily married or taken, and I think that is beautiful. I don't want to come across as a "Down With Love" kind of girl because love is a wonderful thing. I love being in love! But for you single ladies….don’t think of your ‘singleness’ as a curse and don’t rush into a relationship with someone just because everyone else has a boyfriend/girlfriend. Slow down, enjoy the ride and spend some quality time with yourself….these are the years you’ll look back on with fondness.
