Bachelor Proof Pancakes

You see this stack of golden, fluffy, perfectly symmetrical pancakes?

Look delicious don’t they???

Well that’s because they jolly well are and they are so easy to make that even a bachelor (or bachelorette) could make them in about 5 minutes.

But what is even better than how scrumptious they actually taste, is the fact that there’s not one thing “bad” for you in them. Nope. Not one bloody thing. They are protein pancakes and when I was at my skinniest-most-best-in-shape-self, I ate these almost every morning.

Now take out a pen and pencil and take very detailed notes on how this is all going to go down. Ready? OK…

INGREDIENTS
1 Banana
1 TBLSPOON of Peanut Butter
2 Eggs

DIRECTIONS
Unpeel your banana. Mash it up in a bowl with a fork. Add the 2 eggs. Mix. Add the peanut butter. Mix. It won’t mix in all the way, but don’t worry about it. Get a frying pan really hot on the stove, add some butter (I use coconut oil, but whatev!) and pour about a ¼ cup of batter in the pan. You can try to make them bigger but they just fry up better small. When they bubble up, flip. Repeat until finished. Voila!

Just FYI, these do not taste “banana-y” at all. They just taste like wee pancakes and they’re amazing. TRY THEM or we may not be able to be friends. Just kidding...kinda.

I ate mine with honey, cinnamon, peaches, and more peanut butter drizzled on top, but you could add raspberry preserves and powdered sugar, or just plain syrup!

Enjoy!!!

Week II: Buckaroo Barbie Body Challenge with Lacey Arbough

Here is our second posting from Lacey Arbaugh! If you're new to the Buckaroo Barbie Body Challenge, don't worry just jump in with both feet! :) What Lacey's talking about here with diet means SO MUCH to me personally, because my life has drastically changed for the better BECAUSE of eating clean. Please take her words to heart, this is your life and you only get one body to live that life in. It's pretty important!

Week 2:

Goals are set, just got your new starting stats, and a big journal full of scribbles - you are now ready to take on this new challenge!

Let’s take a step into my kitchen. If you open up my fridge, you are going to see staples such as: eggs, Greek yogurt, almond milk, fresh greens, chicken, LOTS of hot sauce, dog treats (for my beagle), and water. I stick to a very clean diet as much as I possibly can. I notice that when I tend to buy a treat here or there, I will literally eat it all in two seconds, so my discipline is simply don’t buy it.

Nutrition is about 80% of any goal you are trying achieve. You can do as much cardio and lift as heavy as you can in the gym, but if you do not have your diet clean, you will not reach your goals. Our body needs calories and nutrients for energy to function properly, and the only way to get this is to consume it through food.

As a trainer, I take in all of your stats and figure out roughly how many calories you burn on a daily basis. I then construct a meal plan that will keep you in a deficit of eating less than you burn, so you are guaranteed to lose 1-2 pounds per week. Remember anymore than that will be water, and you definitely do not want to be dehydrated. I also construct my plans to have the perfect ratio of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, the essential nutrients our bodies need, while keeping your metabolism at an all time high.

The biggest confusion I see with my clients is telling the difference between the macronutrients carbs, proteins, and fats. They also don’t understand what these different nutrients do for our bodies. Social media has taken hold of these words and put misconceptions into our brains to make us all confused.

Carbohydrates are our number one source of energy! Your digestive system converts the carbohydrates into glucose (sugar), which is then used for energy in your cells, tissues, and organs. There are two types of carbohydrates: simple and complex. Simple carbs are found naturally in foods such as fruits, vegetables, and milk products. Complex carbs are whole grain breads, pastas, legumes, and potatoes.

Proteins are in every cell of our body, skin, muscles, organs, and glands. It is important we consume protein to help repair and rebuild our cells and to help with our growth and development. When we digest proteins, amino acids are left, and they help break down our food we consume all day. Proteins are found in meats, milk, fish, and eggs, but it does not have to be consumed through animal products.

Fats are also a primary source of energy for our body, and they also help us absorb vitamins. Good fats help with our growth and development and help control our cholesterol levels. Good and healthy fats include olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, flax, and almond oil, which I like to include in my diet.

Foods that you absolutely need to avoid in order to ensure you are hitting your goal each week are processed food. I cannot stress enough the importance of this new change to your diet. Processed foods include white breads, lunch meats, candy, soda, artificial sweeteners, etc. These foods are packed full of artificial sugar, preservatives, food dyes, bleach, toxins, thickeners, and chemicals that can negatively affect your overall health and lifespan. Consuming these processed foods are putting you at high risk for cancer, high blood pressure, increased triglyceride levels (fat in blood), diabetes, and obesity.

Now I am sure you are wondering about the journal?! This is where I highly recommend investing in a diet plan designed specifically for you. The journal will give you the discipline you need to stay on track daily with the new diet. It keeps my meals on track and it keeps me disciplined when I feel like cheating on my diet with a cookie. Write down how many calories you are consuming with each meal and start to pay attention to how many grams of each macronutrient you are consuming. You want to be eating about every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism at its highest to burn all those calories. Track your feelings and moods and you will start to notice how different foods and different ranges of calories will affect the way you feel.

I hope all this information helped to get an idea on how your diet is a huge impact on how you are going to achieve your goals. Invest in a diet plan that is going to specifically for you. Make sure you are eating a well balanced diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains. Stay as far away from processed foods as possible and start tracking your meals to stay on track. This will be the biggest change of your life!

The #1 Diet and Beauty Trick You're NOT Using

What if you could take something that would make you sleep better at night, help you loose weight, curb cravings and help your skin to be more soft and clear than it is right now?

HA! Well you CAN and you don't have to buy it. It's even a little bit of a let down because it's so common and I think the only reason it's not more popular is because people can't patent it and make money off of it.

Are you ready to hear what "it" is?

Ok...it's water.

Drinking Water
Yup. Old fashioned water. I know everyone talks about it, you can read about it in your women's magazine, but I bet you're still not drinking as much as you need.

Especially you working cowboy-girls...we have a tendency to stick with beer and coffee for the most part. Since these are diuretics, it just means they're sucking more fluids out of your body, rather than hydrating you.

I drink an inordinate amount of tea and coffee. I had my first cup of coffee straight up, at 4 years old. Then we moved to Scotland for dad's university (he got cranky when someone told him cowboy's were stupid. He proved them wrong.) when I was 8 years old and my addiction to tea really and truly began. It wasn't anything for me to drink 11 cups of tea a day.

I can remember waking up in the middle of the night when I was still cowboying, and running for the kitchen, where I would drink a glass or three of water as fast as I could. My body just wasn't getting enough and it was protesting!

I knew that it was good for you, good for your skin, yada, yada, yada, but it just felt a little boring to me honestly. Plus, for some really weird reason I don't like to drink water out of a glass. Yeah, it's weird. I know.

But a couple of months ago I made a decision to start drinking more water and made it a goal for October to drink at least two big bottles every day. Baby steps, you know. :)

I got a Klean Kanteen bottle and that's really helped me drink more water. For some reason it tastes better to me from a bottle than it does from a glass....I know, I know, like I said before...weird.

Mine is an awesome turquoise, but they come in all different colors.

My skin is way softer now that I'm drinking three or four of these bottles every day. I was in town all day last week and while I had my Kanteen with me, the town water just didn't taste good and I ended up not drinking as much water as I usually do. And I could tell a difference that night when I got home: my skin felt dry, my lips were chapped and I just felt...off. I instantly poured myself a bottle of spring water and laughed at myself...I'm one of those people now! :)

If you drink enough water during the day you won't be as hungry and thus nip cravings in the bud! Being hydrated also aids digestion and makes your skin soft and clear. And, if you go out dancing and drinking and generally causing mayhem most weekends, if you are hydrated enough before you go out, you won't be as hung over the next day. Unless of course you're of Scot/Irish descent in which case you probably won't be hungover anyway!

Using Water
Another beauty secret that is frequently overlooked is using water topically. Is your skin kind of dull and just lacking that soft, feminine look? Want your hair to grow faster and stay shiny? At the end of your shower, turn the water on as cold as you can stand it and rinse your hair and body in cold water. It aids in circulation, making your hair grow more, and tightening the pores in your skin, causing it to look smooth and tight. My mums started me doing this as a little girl and while somedays it's a little shocking at first, I always feel amazing afterwards, full of energy and my hair feels slick and shiny.

If your face needs a deep cleaning, and it does at least once a week, boil some water, pour it in a bowl and lean over the bowl with a towel draped over your head to keep the steam trapped inside. Try to stay that way for 5 minutes. The warm steam breaks up the oil and dirt deep in your skin and when you're done your skin feels incredibly soft, like a baby's. After your skin has come back to room temperature splash with cold water to seal your pores up.

So do yourself a favor ladies, and you gents as well! Make yourself available to a completely free beauty aid that not only helps you look better, but makes you feel better too.
