12 Things You Didn't Know About Adrian

If you’ve been here at Buckaroo Barbie for very long at all, you’ll know that Adrian is my little sister, best friend, business partner, and confidant. If you’re new, Adrian is my little sister, best friend, business partner (we have Buckaroo Barbie together), and confidant. She’s blonde, crazy and smiles constantly. What you see is basically what you get. But here are 12 things that I know you don’t know about Adrian.

1. She hates Gene Autry. She holds him almost soley responsible for the demise of women’s bronc riding in rodeo. I find this hysterical for some reason.

2. She buys lots of high heels that she never wears. The Bonds or moccasins always end up on her feet.

3. Dolly Parton is her favorite artist.

4. She can read ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. Yes, she has cursed me and threatened to turn me into a Lotus flower before. Sometimes, I do feel afraid.

5. She rarely eats before a show.

6. She once told a state Senator when she played for his campaign and was asked whether she wanted to be paid upfront or after the show, that her daddy taught her when dealing with politicians or prostitutes to always get your money up front. OHMYGOD.

7. Never make a bet with her. She will win. I’m not even kidding. I wish I could tell you the back story.

8. She’s addicted to Christmas. She starts listening to Christmas music in August. I love her. Sometimes around November I start hating Christmas music.

9. She would rather eat a loaf of sourdough bread than a bar of chocolate.

10. Every time she has gotten off a bucking horse onto a pickup man’s horse, she has closed her eyes.

11. She special ordered leopard wallpaper for her mobile home trailer. BAM.

12. She has chronically itchy teeth. Meaning that she bites me all the freaking time.

My Kind of Beautiful

Today I had the privilege to listen to my sister sing and play with some other musicians at a local school here in Monterey, CA. In the middle of a song, my baby sister stopped playing and asked the listening children, "Do you know what I mean by, 'my kind of beautiful'?" When no one answered my wise girl went on to explain how everyone is unique and different. That we all have things about ourselves that may not be popular or "cool"to the rest of the world, but they are "my kind of beautiful". It's what makes us, "us". That just because the rest of world doesn't buy into our kind of beautiful doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace our dreams whole heartedly...BE YOUR KIND OF BEAUTIFUL and don't apologize for it!

Sitting there in the little classroom I was overcome at how RIGHT she was.

We all of us have a different story and each of us has things that make us uniquely "ME". These quirks and differences should be embraced! Make what makes you different, your strength instead of thinking of it as a weakness.

Some of the most talented, greatest people down through history were taunted and made fun of the things that ultimately made them so great, the things they are known for now. What if they had repressed their kind of beautiful?? What if they had gone with the flow and settled for ordinary and didn't have the strength of character to listen to their heart and swim against the tide? The world would have a whole lot less music, art, films, books, nurses and philosophers in it, that's for sure!

Don't stifle your own kind of beautiful, and be unapologetically YOU. Be thankful for what makes you different and use it to your advantage.

Behind The Scenes: A Journey in Pictures

Adrian had a gig in The Dalles, OR last night and we had a great time exploring parts of the country we'd never been to before. We had a fantastic time, in spite of A having a HORRIBLE cold. I don't know how she does it, no voice before she sings and as soon as she walks on stage she's 100%. She's kinda my hero :) We'll be on our way to The Monterey Cowboy Festival on Friday and for a full schedule of performances click HERE. After that, December 5 will find us at the Ranch & Reata Roadhouse....you definitely don't want to miss out on this show! Enjoy a gourmet meal in a beautiful setting, a stunning bar and Adrian's beautiful voice. For more information click HERE! Hope we see you guys somewhere on down the road!
