Spring Fashion Wish List

Spring Fashion Wish List

My fashion sense varies wildly. Almost like a squirrel on crack cocaine. I either wear my straight-legged jeans that I work in with a hoodie and a pair of wallabies, or leather pants and designer heels. There hasn’t been much in-between.

I am completely unimaginative when it comes to putting together cute, cowgirl-esque style town clothes. And I have decided that I’m just going to stop it.

For years now Georgia Black has been my secret fashion goddess that I look up to. When I go to get dressed up, I stare dejectedly into my closet and mutter, “What would Georgia wear?” Thus far, my closet has never answered me back.

Thanks to Instagram it’s easy to get outfit ideas from fashion-savvy cowboygirls like Chelsea Barney, Jess Childress, and Andrea Glenn of The Rusty Rose (@chelsearoseb, @jesschildress1984 and @andreaglenn84 respectively!) and I now feel like I have enough confidence guidance to branch out a little.

So. I have decided to give myself a makeover. Yup, you heard me! A makeover. And if I fail miserably, I'm just gonna go begging and crying to one of the above mentioned fashion-goddess-gurus and beg until they take pity on me and help me out. It's a good plan, no? hahaha Just kidding girls!!

This is my wish list for my new spring wardrobe. What’s your HAVE-TO-HAVE fashion wish list?? I’d love to hear what your ideas are!!

Always Kiss Her Goodnight

A smile is better than the most expensive lipstick.

The nicest decorations for any home, no matter how poor or how grand, are fresh flowers.

Little gifts should be given to those you love frequently and for no reason at all. They’re the best.

Even when the situation is awkward and you feel uncomfortable, in moments of grief it is always appropriate to give the hurting person a hug and say, “I’m sorry.”

Learn to make your own bread. It’s so much better. Especially with good butter and homemade preserves.

Everyone should read the Little House on the Prairie series, the Chronicles of Narnia, and Jeremiah Johnson.

Our families are insane, out of their minds, loud and constantly in our business….but they’re family. Culture relationships with them and stay friends anyway.

Always make time for children in your life.

Watch Hatari! with John Wayne again.

When having dinner with a group of people, technically the ladies aren’t supposed to refill their wine glasses….a man is. One hopes that the men at the table are paying attention to the state of one’s glass.

Make your own vanilla extract, spaghetti sauce, and whipped cream. They're just better.

Never underestimate the support and pleasure that can be found from a good bra. Also, never underestimate the discomfort that comes from wearing the wrong type cut of panties when playing cowboy all day.

Candles are always a nice touch at supper, even when you’re alone. Maybe especially when you’re alone.

Never fully trust people if they don’t have books in their house.

Never pass up an opportunity to rope the dummy.

Unless your parents are major dirtballs, never date anyone who doesn’t want to meet your family.

You can’t live a positive life unless you approach life with an amazing attitude and a positive outlook.

Always brush your hair starting from the ends.

Never wash your t-shirts and socks together.

Have a signature perfume.

If you like her, always kiss her goodnight.

A Good Day Branding

Last week, we got to go help some good friends brand. It's the time of year here where it's cold in the morning, and hot in the afternoon.

What better way is there to spend the day than surrounded by good people doing what you love?

Spring Time

If it hadn't been for the posts of my friends on Facebook, the fact that today is the first day of Spring would have completely passed me by! Which actually makes me disgusted with myself. Insert me snorting in disgust (here).

I take my math final on Friday and then sweet relief, I'm free!! Happy Dance!

Until the next semester, that is.

When I first got sick, I had a really hard time allowing myself to A) be sick, and B) let people help me. I wanted to do it all by myself, even if that meant I'd get sicker, feel crappier and make my entire family frustrated with me. I can be alarmingly like a toddler learning to feed itself.

I'm hard headed. But I've slowly been learning to listen to my body, swallow my pride and let people help me so that I can do more things on days I don't feel so great.

Lyme disease is weird, one day I can be feeling great, go for run, do pushups, ride, do homework, braid some rawhide and then BAM, not be able to walk by myself the next day. And then I can be back up and at it again the very next day. I'm hoping to make it to a friend's branding this weekend and because I haven't been feeling too hot lately, I've been taking it easy.

Which means that on this glorious first day of spring, I went for a little ride with Adrian. Not the long, "training" adventure I wanted, because hopefully I'm finally starting to carry learning forward and me babying myself today will make it so I can brand later. Sigh. Sometimes it takes me a long time to learn an easy lesson.

So my little sister was incredibly kind, caught and saddled my fat man and let me go on a short little ride around. And it was a wonderful way to celebrate the beginning of spring. As are the storm clouds hovering in the background...come on rain!!

Sometimes when Adrian sings I have to do a little fist pump.

Does anyone else do that? You finally learn a lesson that you had been bashing your head against for the longest time, and realize that it wasn't that hard to begin with?!

Checklist For A Successful Spring

If you want things in your life to be different, you can’t do things the same way you’ve always done them. I look forward to periods of my life that seem light years away and think to myself, “Oh by that point I’ll feel different. I won’t get nervous talking to people or I’ll be in better shape or when faced with a challenge, I’ll be so confident I won’t get embarrassed!” HA HA!! I make myself laugh. I can’t expect for things to feel or BE different, unless I continuously test myself and create change in my enviorment. This is my checklist to having a life changing spring. What’s on yours??

You Will Need:

An adventurous heart.

A tough attitude (ability to handle constructive criticism).

The decision to not give up, no matter how hopeless or hard things seem.

Trying something that is challenging enough to you that it scares your pants off.
Figuratively, of course.

A group of people to surround yourself with that are kind, talented and uplifting.
Spend time around people that you want to be like!

Learn to cook something completely new. I am a foodie, I think about what I’m going to eat basically all day long, so if this is weird, forget I said anything.

Learn a new skill. Learn to team rope, barrel race, braid rawhide, make saddles, paint, play an instrument, learn a language….something, anything!

Muscles are sexy. Muscles help you burn off more fat.
Muscles make you look amazing in clothes or out of ‘em! Lift heavy weights!

Forgiveness. For yourself and the mistakes you will make and
to others that will hurt you along the way.

This is my checklist, what is on yours?
