Last night the mums and I were sitting up talking and she was telling me about the walk she went on earlier that morning. She was trying to get her sweat on (good job mums!) and a caravan of trucks loaded with 4-wheelers and camping gear passed her. They all saw her and still they blew past her going about 50 mph! That led us to talking about some of the things we wished people from town would keep in mind when they come out to the "country" for a drive. That conversation led to this post:
8 Things NOT To Do On Your Weekend Drive
Please don’t drive past ranch houses at 40 mph. Slow the heck down.
And turn your brights off at night while you’re at it.
You’re an adult. If you’re going to be driving on dirt roads
90 miles from town in the spring time, realize that you might not have cell
service, you might need gas and you could probably use chains and a shovel.
Also, don’t “forget” to return mine that
I loaned you in a moment of generosity.
If you pass some people horse-back trying to push a
bunch of black cows into a pen directly facing you, don’t park your car in the
gate and get out and take pictures.
If you pull up into the yard, don’t let your 10 dogs out and
allow them to run all over the property, chase the cats and the stock and pee on my mother’s plants. Or do, but don’t be surprised when I’m not willing to
help you out.
Don’t assume that just because you can’t see anyone you can
shoot anything in any direction. ASK. And please, for the love of God, make
sure of your target before you shoot.
Don’t go through gates without asking. But if you’re gonna
do it, don’t just leave it open. If it was shut, it was shut for a reason. Get
out and close it.
If you forget to pack food and water, don’t just demand that
I give you mine.
If you need parts for your truck or air for your tire, ask
nicely first. Don’t just start going though the barn and shed for what you
need.

on a county road
Had someone this week shoot at a coyote while on our property! He had no idea of where anything was. Was not happy.
ReplyDeleteToday had someone working on barn turn his big dog loose. I was not happy.
Can relate to all of these. Just don't live as far out as you do and I live on pavement.
This is good! We have 2 county roads that run through our place. One going through our feedlot. We've had 3 horses hit by rigs out there because even though our family has been there for 130 years people just can't seem to figure out that livestock are occasionally on the road! Besides that one, my other pet peeve is kids on motorcycles, nothing like riding a colt and having someone blast around a corner and about run you over!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, how sad to have horses hit. I'm so sorry. hahahaha yeah, the motorcycles are crazy too!
DeleteThey better use Your common sense, they most likely don't have any.
ReplyDeleteCandy, I am surprised more and more how little plain common sense most people have! It's frightening!
DeleteThat's the truth!
ReplyDeleteAdd to that, don't run the stop sign and run through the fence and then leave, so cattle can get out, etc -- what is doing on right now! Lucky it's not us but just tiny bit past our fence line. Night time fence fixin'
ReplyDeleteSomeone called the neighbor and said his Angus herd was running down the road! So far we have been lucky and it's always been on his property with the drive through the fence. This is twice in last couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteOh no!! That stinks, yeah I never understand why people drive through a fence and just keep on going!!
DeleteI don't know what is worse: clueless and sometimes flat disrespectful weekend warriors, or city relatives that make a habit of inviting themselves out to "help."
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a funny post, darn, I thought people this clueless never ventured out into the country
ReplyDeleteJust driving up my dirt road at 50 mph is enough to annoy me and my mom!! I dont live on it anymore :( but my mom does and she had to yell at the UPS man today for driving way to fast up our road. My little cat was hit and killed this summer because someone didnt pay attention :(
ReplyDeleteWell ladies, the day after I posted this, we had 4 motorcycle riders get a flat and come to the house and ask really nicely if we had air that they could use. They were so nice and friendly and put the air away when they were done, so not everyone is horrible! :)
